Ride Details: This is a free, slow paced ride of purpose (10-12mph) and silent procession to honor those killed or injured while cycling on public roadways. Riders are required to wear helmets, have safe and properly operating bikes. At the ride, you will be required to sign a participation waiver to ride. This can be viewed using this link (Ride of Silence Waiver of Liability to Ride).
Every year on the third Wednesday in May, cyclists from all over the world ride to honor those who have been killed or injured on the road and to raise awareness of road safety and the need for drivers to share the road. Cyclists have a legal right to use the roads but motorists are not always aware of the laws requiring road users to share the road. In NJ this includes the NJ Safe Pass Law (March 2022; NJSA 39:4-92.4) which requires drivers to provide at least four feet of clearance or slow to 25 mph when passing cyclists and other users on the road.
A local Ride of Silence is hosted in Southern New Jersey as it has been over the last several years where 80-90 cyclists have participated annually. Team Evesham Cycling Club, working with Evesham Township, NJ and the Evesham Township Police Department, will host the event, joined by other Southern New Jersey cycling clubs, Cynergy Cycling, TNT Cycling, and The Outdoor Club of South Jersey
The Ride of Silence (rideofsilence.org) was first organized in 2003 by Chris Phelan in Dallas after endurance cyclist Larry Schwartz was hit by the mirror of a passing bus and was killed. (full history on website).
The Ride of Silence will NOT be quiet! We ask that everyone share our collective roadways.
Ride Requirements: By riding you acknowledge your understanding and agreement with rider safety and pace guidance (Rider Guidance).
